Maskne, the new acne! Here’s What You MUST Know

Maskne is the New Acne

Yes, it is REAL Here’s what it is and how to treat them while we fight through the COVID-19 pandemic.

What is Maskne?

Acne or other skin irritation that results from wearing a mask, especially a N95 or cloth face mask.

Face masks are here and here to stay. While they’re great for protecting the community from the spread of COVID-19, they’re not so great for your skin.

You may have found that since wearing your mask you’ve experienced redness, dryness, irritation or breakouts. This is again called Maskne.

Yes! get used to the term because it’s here to stay but don’t worry we at Klinik Dr. Prevents will help you navigate your way out of it.

How and Why?

Face Touching

We touch our faces more frequently now – whether putting our face mask or taking it off, or adjusting it. Though we’re washing hands more, we’re still touching other surfaces and objects. Our hands transfer dirt, grease, and sweat onto our face throughout the day. This leads to clogged pores, blackheads, and breakouts.

How do you treat/ prevent Maskne whilst trying to fight againts COVID-19?

Before we dive deep into skincare and products that can help, let us get to the basics FIRST.

1. Wash your face when you get home at the end of the day

This can help remove any environmental debris from the air as well as any sweat build-up or pore blockages.

Even Better: DOUBLE CLEANSE.

We will get to that soon at the bottom of the post.

3. Rotate your masks

If you can, buy or make a couple of masks. AND STOP USING the same mask for days.

4. Wear less makeup on the bottom part of your face

Try a tinted moisturizer instead of a heavy duty foundation, or just spot correct with concealer.

Or even better: a TINTED SUNSCREEN. You’ll get to avoid maskne and combat aging at the same time.

Who doesn’t want that?

5. Avoid touching your face with dirty hands

Ensure your hands are clean. Use hand sanitizer or wash your hands before planning on touching your face.

6. Hydrate skin

Moisture loss is one of the biggest causes (and effects) of irritation.

Drink your 2L water generously and please invest in a moisturizer. It makes a loyal friend we promise you.

7. See a Doctor

Even after practicing all those mentioned basic rules above and you still don’t see a difference in your maskne, come and see us at; Klinik Dr. Prevents or even better CALL us.

There are a few medications that can’t be bought over the counter such as adapalene, prescription-strength topical antibiotics and we at Dr.Prevents will also construct a basic skincare routine for your day and night that will help combat your maskne.
