What to Expect During Your Walk-In Vaccine

Your walk-in vaccination visit typically includes:

Health screening: When you arrive, our medical team will conduct a short health screening to make sure it’s safe for you to receive the vaccine.

Vaccine consultation: If you’re not sure which vaccines you need, we can help review your previous vaccination record or travel plans and recommend what’s best.

Vaccination: Once everything is confirmed, your vaccination will be administered safely and efficiently by our trained nurse or doctor.

Observation period: After receiving your shot, we’ll ask you to stay for a short 10–15 minute observation period in our waiting area. This allows our staff to monitor for any immediate reactions.

You’ll also receive a vaccination record for your personal or travel documentation. We’ll also note when your next booster or follow-up dose is due and can help you schedule it if needed.

Vaccination Aftercare

It is common to experience mild side effects such as pain, swelling, or redness at the injection site, as well as headache, fever, and fatigue after receiving a vaccination.

headache
Monitor side effects

Keep track of any side effects that may develop after leaving the observation center, such as a rash or persistent fever. Seek medical attention if these symptoms persist or worsen.

pillls
Take pain relievers
if necessary

Paracetamol or acetaminophen can be taken after vaccination to reduce pain, fever, or discomfort, but it's crucial to consult before taking any medication, especially if you have underlying medical conditions or take other drugs.

hydrated
Keep hydrated

Staying hydrated after vaccination helps prevent dehydration and its associated symptoms such as headache, dizziness, and fatigue. Proper hydration also helps the body produce an adequate immune response to the vaccine, promoting faster recovery and reducing the risk of complications.

good rest
Get plenty of rest

Taking adequate rest after vaccination allows the body to recover and build a strong immune response to the vaccine. Rest also helps reduce the risk of vaccine side effects, promotes faster healing, and ensures that the body is better prepared to fight off infections.

How Do Vaccines Work?

Vaccines work by stimulating the body’s natural immune system to recognize and fight off specific viruses or bacteria. When a vaccine is introduced into the body, it contains a harmless part of the virus or bacteria or a weakened version of the pathogen. This stimulates the immune system to produce antibodies that fight the pathogen.

Vaccination readies the immune system to fight actual viruses or bacteria, preventing or lessening illness. It’s vital for public health, preventing disease spread, and safeguarding individuals and communities. A wide range of vaccines is available in KL, Malaysia, such as hepatitis vaccines, flu vaccination, vaccines for Umrah, and more.

Importance of Vaccination

Vaccination is essential for individuals of all ages as it is the most effective way to prevent the spread of infectious diseases. Vaccines, such as hepatitis and flu vaccines, are specifically designed to stimulate the body’s immune system to recognize and fight off specific viruses or bacteria.

By getting vaccinated, individuals protect themselves from getting sick and prevent the spread of diseases to others who may be more vulnerable. Vaccination is a simple yet powerful tool that can protect individuals and communities from various preventable illnesses, making it a crucial aspect of preventive healthcare.

Common Questions

Vaccination FAQ — Kuala Lumpur & Selangor

Answers to the most common questions about walk-in vaccination at our 24-hour clinics across KL and Selangor. Can't find your question? WhatsApp us — we reply 24/7.

How much does vaccination cost at Dr Prevents clinics?
Vaccination prices depend on the specific vaccine. Common vaccines such as influenza, typhoid and Hepatitis B are affordably priced, while combination vaccines (e.g. Infanrix Hexa, Twinrix) and travel-specific vaccines (e.g. meningococcal ACWY for Umrah) are priced higher. Consultation fees are minimal and clearly disclosed before any vaccine is administered. For the latest pricing at your nearest branch, please WhatsApp us at +60 16-848 5911.
Do I need an appointment for vaccination?
No appointment is needed. All 8 Dr Prevents branches across KL and Selangor accept walk-ins 24 hours a day. For less common vaccines (e.g. yellow fever or specific travel vaccines), we recommend messaging us first to confirm stock availability at your chosen branch.
Which vaccines are required for Umrah and Hajj?
The Saudi Arabian authorities require the meningococcal ACWY vaccine (commonly Nimenrix or Menveo) for all Umrah and Hajj pilgrims. The vaccine should be taken at least 10 days before travel and is valid for 5 years. We also recommend seasonal influenza vaccination, as well as ensuring your Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B and MMR vaccinations are up to date. Dr Prevents stocks the meningococcal vaccine and provides an official vaccination certificate accepted for Umrah visa processing.
Are you an approved clinic for food handler typhoid vaccination?
Yes. Typhoid vaccination is compulsory for all food handlers under Kementerian Kesihatan Malaysia (KKM) regulations. We administer the TYPHIM Vi typhoid vaccine and issue the official vaccination certificate recognised for KKM food handler training and employer submissions. F&B outlets can also enrol as a corporate client for bulk staff vaccination — see our Corporate Panel.
Can I bring my child for vaccination without booking?
Yes, walk-ins are welcome for paediatric vaccination. Please bring your child's existing vaccination record (buku merah or similar). We stock common childhood vaccines including Infanrix Hexa (6-in-1), MMR, Rotavirus, Pneumococcal (Prevenar 13), Varicella (chicken pox), Hepatitis B and the Pfizer COVID-19 paediatric vaccine. For rare or paediatric-only vaccines, WhatsApp your nearest branch first to confirm stock.
What vaccinations do I need for overseas travel?
Travel vaccines depend on your destination. Common recommendations include Hepatitis A & B for most tropical destinations, typhoid for Southeast Asia and the Indian subcontinent, Japanese encephalitis for rural Asia, rabies pre-exposure for long stays or adventure travel, and yellow fever for parts of Africa and South America. Book a consultation at our travel clinic at least 4–6 weeks before departure so vaccines have time to take full effect.
Are Dr Prevents clinics really open 24 hours for vaccinations?
Yes. All 8 Dr Prevents branches operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week — including weekends and public holidays. Vaccination services are available any time, though we recommend messaging ahead outside business hours to confirm a nurse is available for administration at your chosen branch.
How long do I need to wait after getting vaccinated?
We ask you to stay at the clinic for a 10–15 minute observation period after any vaccine. This lets our medical team monitor for any immediate reactions. Most patients leave feeling completely fine. You'll also receive your vaccination record and a reminder for any follow-up doses.
Can I claim vaccination costs from my insurance or employer?
Yes, in many cases. Dr Prevents is a panel clinic for a range of insurers and third-party administrators (TPAs). If your company or insurer covers preventive vaccination, we can bill them directly. We also issue itemised receipts for reimbursement claims. Visit our Corporate Panel page for the full insurer/TPA list.
How soon before travel should I get my travel vaccinations?
Ideally 4–6 weeks before departure. Some vaccines, like Hepatitis B and rabies, require multiple doses spaced weeks apart for full protection. Last-minute travel is still worth vaccinating for — partial protection is always better than none. For Umrah pilgrims, the meningococcal vaccine should be received at least 10 days before travel.
Do you issue an International Certificate of Vaccination?
We issue an official Dr Prevents vaccination certificate listing the vaccine, batch number, date and administering clinician — accepted for most travel, employer, school and KKM requirements. For yellow fever specifically, the International Certificate of Vaccination (the "yellow book") requires a WHO-designated yellow-fever centre; we'll direct you to the appropriate clinic if you require this.
Which Dr Prevents branch should I visit for vaccination?
All 8 branches — Kepong, Segambut, Jalan Ipoh, Bandar Sri Damansara, Damansara Jaya, PJ Oldtown, SS15 Subang Jaya, and Bandar Puteri Puchong — offer walk-in vaccination. For rare or travel-specific vaccines, message your preferred branch first to confirm stock. View all locations on our locations page.
