Urine Testing in SS15, Subang Jaya

Available 24 Hours, Walk In Anytime

Urine tells a surprisingly detailed story about what’s happening inside your body. From a suspected urinary tract infection to early signs of kidney disease, from undetected diabetes to pre-employment medical screening — a urine test is one of the simplest and most informative investigations available in primary care. At Klinik Dr. Prevents SS15, we offer walk-in urine testing any time of the day or night. Our in-house doctors don’t just process the sample — they interpret the results in the context of your symptoms and health history, and explain clearly what the findings mean and what needs to happen next. No appointment needed, no waiting for office hours.

What Is a Urine Test?

A urine test — also called urinalysis — is an examination of a urine sample to assess its physical properties, chemical composition, and microscopic content. Depending on the type of test ordered, it can reveal a wide range of information about kidney function, metabolic health, infection, hydration status, and more.

Urine testing at primary care level typically falls into three broad categories:

Urine dipstick test (urinalysis) A rapid, in-clinic test where a chemically treated strip is dipped into the urine sample. Within minutes, it gives results for parameters including glucose, protein, blood, white cells, nitrites, pH, and specific gravity. It’s a fast and highly practical first-line screening tool.

Urine microscopy and culture (urine MC&S) A more detailed laboratory investigation where the urine is examined under a microscope and cultured to identify the specific bacteria causing an infection — and which antibiotics it is sensitive to. This is the gold standard for diagnosing urinary tract infections properly and is particularly important when infections are recurrent or not responding to initial treatment.

Urine protein-creatinine ratio (uPCR) / albumin-creatinine ratio (uACR) Specific tests used to quantify protein in the urine — an important marker for kidney disease and diabetic nephropathy.

Your doctor will determine which test is appropriate based on your clinical presentation.

What Conditions Can Urine Testing Detect?

What Does Urine Testing Check?

Urine testing at our SS15 clinic contributes to the assessment and management of a broad range of conditions:

Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs) The most common reason patients request urine testing. Symptoms of a UTI include a burning sensation when urinating, increased urinary frequency and urgency, cloudy or foul-smelling urine, lower abdominal discomfort, and in some cases fever. A dipstick finding of white cells and nitrites strongly suggests infection — a culture confirms it and identifies the right antibiotic.

Kidney disease and chronic kidney disease (CKD) monitoring Protein in the urine — particularly albumin — is one of the earliest detectable signs of kidney damage. Regular urine monitoring is essential for patients with diabetes or hypertension, both of which are leading causes of CKD in Malaysia.

Diabetes screening and monitoring Glucose in the urine suggests blood sugar levels have exceeded the kidney’s capacity to reabsorb it — a finding that prompts blood glucose testing. Urine is also used to monitor for diabetic kidney complications in established diabetes. For comprehensive diabetes assessment, our diabetes screening service provides the full blood and urine panel needed.

Blood in the urine (haematuria) Visible blood in the urine is always worth investigating. Non-visible (microscopic) haematuria detected on dipstick also requires assessment. Causes range from UTIs and kidney stones to, less commonly, urological conditions requiring specialist evaluation.

Pre-employment and insurance medical screening Urine dipstick testing is a standard component of most pre-employment medical examinations in Malaysia. It screens for glucose, protein, blood, and in some cases drugs of abuse.

Drug screening Urine-based drug screening tests may be required for employment, legal, or clinical purposes. Please speak to our team at registration regarding the specific requirements for your situation.

Hydration and general metabolic assessment Urine specific gravity and colour provide a simple but useful indication of hydration status — particularly relevant in patients presenting with fatigue, dizziness, or heat-related symptoms.

Recognising a UTI — When to Come In for Urine Testing

Urinary tract infections are among the most common bacterial infections we see at our SS15 clinic, particularly in women. They occur when bacteria — most commonly E. coli from the bowel — enter and colonise the urinary tract.

Classic symptoms include:

  • A burning or stinging sensation during urination
  • Needing to urinate frequently but passing only small amounts
  • A persistent feeling of urgency even just after urinating
  • Cloudy, dark, or strong-smelling urine
  • Discomfort or pressure in the lower abdomen or pelvis
  • In upper UTIs (kidney infection / pyelonephritis): fever, chills, back or flank pain, nausea
Who Should Get a Urine Test?

UTIs in men are less common than in women but should always be taken seriously and investigated promptly, as they are more likely to involve the prostate or kidneys.

Elderly patients and young children often present with atypical UTI symptoms — confusion, general deterioration, or abdominal pain rather than the classic urinary symptoms. If you’re unsure, a urine test is a quick and low-effort way to find out.

Please don’t manage a suspected UTI with just increased water intake and hope. Some UTIs resolve without antibiotics, but many don’t — and an untreated upper UTI can progress to a kidney infection that requires hospital management.

What Happens During Your Urine Testing Visit

Urine Testing for Patients with Diabetes or Hypertension

If you have been diagnosed with diabetes or high blood pressure, regular urine testing is not optional — it is an essential part of your ongoing health monitoring. Both conditions damage the small blood vessels in the kidneys over time, and the earliest sign of that damage is protein appearing in the urine.

At this stage — before kidney function itself deteriorates — intervention can slow or even halt the progression of kidney disease. Once kidney function begins to decline, the process is far harder to reverse.

Our doctors will incorporate urine testing into your routine chronic disease reviews. If your results flag early kidney involvement, we will discuss the implications clearly and adjust your management plan accordingly — which may include medication changes, dietary advice, or specialist referral. Our general medical consultation service supports comprehensive chronic disease management at the same clinic.

What Happens During Your Urine Testing Visit at SS15

Walk in and register: No appointment needed, any time of day or night. Let our team know you’d like urine testing — or that you have symptoms you’d like assessed.

Consultation with your doctor: Your doctor will take a brief history of your symptoms, relevant medical background, and current medications. This context helps determine which urine tests are most useful and how to interpret the results appropriately.

Sample collection: You will be asked to provide a urine sample using our clean-catch midstream technique — your doctor or nurse will explain the correct method before you go. Midstream collection reduces the chance of contamination from skin bacteria, which matters for accurate results.

Testing and results: Dipstick results are available within minutes. Culture results, where ordered, are processed by an external laboratory and typically returned within 48 to 72 hours — your doctor will advise how you’ll receive these and what to do in the interim.

Treatment and follow-up: Where infection is confirmed or strongly suspected, your doctor will prescribe appropriate antibiotics. If results flag other concerns — protein, blood, glucose — further investigation will be arranged and explained clearly.

Recurrent UTIs — When It's Not Just Bad Luck

Some patients come to our clinic having had three, four, or more UTIs within a single year. Recurrent UTIs are not simply a run of bad luck — they suggest either a predisposing structural factor, a behavioural pattern worth addressing, or in some cases an underlying condition that needs investigation.

Common contributing factors in recurrent UTIs include:

  • Sexual activity patterns and hygiene habits
  • Incomplete bladder emptying
  • Urinary catheter use
  • Diabetes or other conditions affecting immune response
  • Anatomical factors, particularly in post-menopausal women
  • Antibiotic resistance — if the same bacteria keep returning, the treatment being used may not be clearing the infection fully

Our doctors will take a thorough history for patients presenting with recurrent UTIs, arrange appropriate cultures to identify resistance patterns, and discuss preventive strategies that are evidence-based rather than anecdotal. Referral to a urologist may be recommended if structural assessment is warranted.

Urine Testing for Children

Children can and do develop UTIs, though they often present very differently from adults. A young child with a UTI may have fever with no obvious source, reduced appetite, abdominal pain, or simply appear unwell. Older children may describe the classic burning sensation.

Urine testing in children is important — untreated UTIs can scar the kidneys in young children, particularly when they involve the upper urinary tract. If your child has an unexplained fever lasting more than 24 to 48 hours with no other clear cause, a urine test is a reasonable and simple investigation to include.

Collection technique in young children needs to be appropriate — our nursing team will guide you through the options depending on your child’s age.

Frequently Asked Questions About Urine Testing in SS15

No appointment is needed. Walk in any time — we’re open 24 hours every day including weekends and public holidays.

Our nurse will explain the midstream clean-catch technique before you collect the sample. In brief — you begin urinating, pause briefly, then collect the middle portion of the stream into the container provided. This reduces contamination from skin bacteria.

Generally no. However, if you have recently consumed large amounts of vitamin C supplements, beets, or certain medications, these can occasionally affect dipstick results. Let your doctor know about any supplements or medications you are taking.

A dipstick result is available within minutes during your visit. A urine culture, where ordered, typically takes 48 to 72 hours.

Yes. A lower UTI without fever is still a bacterial infection that benefits from proper diagnosis and appropriate antibiotic treatment. Some lower UTIs do resolve without antibiotics, but a doctor’s assessment is the right way to determine whether treatment is needed — not guesswork.

A single positive result for protein does not automatically mean kidney disease — protein can appear in the urine after strenuous exercise, during fever, or due to sample contamination. Your doctor will assess the result in context and determine whether repeat or further testing is needed.
