Your doctor systematically works through each structure or system being assessed, checking from multiple angles, taking measurements, and reviewing each finding in context. If you're coming for the 18–22 week anomaly scan, all major fetal organ systems are checked sequentially. If it's a targeted organ scan, that structure is examined thoroughly. Fetal Anomaly Scan (18–22 Weeks)
Comprehensive structural assessment of the developing baby
The mid-pregnancy anomaly scan is the most detailed assessment of fetal anatomy available. Conducted between 18 and 22 weeks when organs are developed enough to assess clearly, it systematically evaluates all major structures. Most parents also find out the baby's gender at this scan.

- Face — lips, palate profile, eye sockets

- Spine — from cervical to sacral

In-depth assessment of a specific organ or structure
Used when a standard scan identifies something requiring closer investigation, or when a specific organ needs comprehensive assessment. More time is dedicated to a single structure — looking at it from multiple angles, measuring carefully, characterising any finding in detail.
- Liver — lesion characterisation, fatty liver grading
- Gallbladder — detailed stone, polyp or wall assessment
- Kidneys — mass characterisation, hydronephrosis grading
- Thyroid — nodule characterisation (TIRADS)
- Ovaries — cyst characterisation, follicle count
- Soft tissue mass — depth, vascularity, margins
