Why Completing Your Child's Vaccination Schedule Matters

The national childhood immunisation programme in Malaysia is designed to protect children from some of the most serious preventable diseases at exactly the right developmental stage. Each vaccine is timed to a specific age because that's when the immune system is best positioned to respond — and when the child faces the highest risk from that particular disease.

Missing or delaying vaccines — even by a few weeks — can leave real gaps in protection during a critical window. And in a community setting like a nursery or school, an unvaccinated child doesn't just carry risk for themselves; they can transmit disease to others who cannot yet be vaccinated, including younger siblings and immunocompromised classmates.

At Klinik Dr. Prevents Damansara Jaya, our in-house doctors review your child's vaccination card at every visit and flag any catch-up doses needed. All vaccinations are recorded in our unified health records system — accessible across all 8 Dr. Prevents branches.

💡

Missing doses? Bring your child's Kad Kesihatan Kanak-Kanak and our doctor will review their full schedule and recommend any catch-up vaccinations needed — regardless of age.

🧬

BCG Vaccination

Protects against tuberculosis (TB). Given to newborns shortly after birth — one of the earliest and most critical vaccines in the childhood schedule.

At birth
🛡️

Hepatitis B Vaccination

3-dose series protecting against chronic Hepatitis B liver infection — a leading cause of liver cancer in Malaysia. First dose given at birth.

Birth, 1m, 6m
🦠

Diphtheria Vaccination

Protects against diphtheria — a serious bacterial throat and airway infection that can cause respiratory obstruction and heart complications.

2m, 3m, 5m + boosters
💪

Tetanus Vaccination

Guards against tetanus toxin — which causes severe, painful muscle spasms. Usually combined with diphtheria and pertussis in a single injection.

2m, 3m, 5m + boosters
🦵

Polio Vaccination

Protects against poliovirus — which can cause permanent paralysis. Malaysia is polio-free thanks to sustained vaccination coverage since the 1980s.

2m, 3m, 5m + booster
🫁

Pertussis Vaccination

Whooping cough — a highly contagious respiratory infection. Especially dangerous in infants under 6 months who can develop life-threatening complications.

2m, 3m, 5m + boosters
🧫

Haemophilus Influenzae B

Protects against Hib bacteria — a leading cause of bacterial meningitis, severe pneumonia, and epiglottitis in children under 5 years of age.

2m, 3m, 5m
🫀

PCV Vaccination

Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccine — shields against Streptococcus pneumoniae, responsible for pneumonia, meningitis, and serious blood infections.

2m, 3m, 5m
🧸

Rotavirus Vaccination

Oral vaccine given at 2 and 4 months. Rotavirus is the most common cause of severe diarrhoea and dangerous dehydration in children under 2.

2m, 4m (oral)
🔴

MMR Vaccination

Combined protection against measles, mumps, and rubella in one injection. Given at 12 months and repeated at 18 months as part of the national schedule.

12m + 18m
💧

Chickenpox Vaccination

Protects against varicella (chickenpox) — a highly contagious viral infection spreading rapidly in nurseries and schools. Reduces future Shingles risk.

12–15 months
🤧

Influenza Vaccination

Annual flu vaccine recommended from 6 months of age. Influenza strains change each year — annual vaccination maintains protection, especially for young children.

From 6m — yearly

Children Vaccination — Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions from parents in Damansara Jaya, SS22, Ara Damansara, and surrounding Petaling Jaya areas.

No appointment is needed for most childhood vaccines — walk in anytime, 24 hours a day. We recommend WhatsApping ahead if you're bringing a newborn or if it's a first visit, so we can prepare the appropriate records. Bring your child's vaccination card (Kad Kesihatan Kanak-Kanak) if you have one.
No — it is never too late to catch up. Our doctors will review your child's vaccination record and recommend the appropriate catch-up sequence. The schedule is adjusted based on your child's current age and which vaccines have already been received. Bring the vaccination card if available, but we can advise even without it.
We follow the national immunisation schedule as defined by the Ministry of Health Malaysia, and also offer additional recommended vaccines not included in the government programme (such as Rotavirus, Chickenpox, and PCV). Your doctor will clearly distinguish between schedule vaccines and optional but recommended additions, and explain the clinical rationale for each.
Yes — co-administration of multiple vaccines in one visit is standard practice and completely safe. It's the basis of the national immunisation schedule, where several vaccines are given together at 2, 3, and 5 months. Combining vaccines reduces the number of clinic visits and does not overload your child's immune system.
A mild fever of 37.5–38.5°C within 24–48 hours of vaccination is normal and indicates the immune system is responding. You can give paracetamol at the appropriate dose for your child's weight. Keep your child comfortable and well-hydrated. If the fever exceeds 39°C, persists beyond 48 hours, or is accompanied by a rash, unusual drowsiness, or inconsolable crying, bring your child in for assessment — we are open 24 hours.
